Gap junctions are tubes that connect animal cells that are right next to eachother. Dissolved substances can pass through these tubes but larger organelles can't. Gap junctions are found connecting two cells.
Tight junctions are made of many sealing strands. Their main functions are to make an impermeable barrier and connect cells together. Tight junctions are found inbetween two adjacent cell membranes.
